For seven and a half years I have had the pleasure of sending to you The Thought for the Day. A famous and inspiring quote followed by my life experience and thoughts about those quotes. My intent was to provide a positive word of encouragement, inspiration, and hope. We all need positive thoughts coming our way and to know that ‘we can’ if we put our minds to it. This effort has been a labor of love for me and I know from your many comments they have been inspiring to many.

On August 25th I suffered a major heart attack. Seems my plate(s) were overflowing. It is time for me to rethink my busy life and curtail some activities, take better care of myself and enjoy life more. So with some regrets, I am discontinuing my efforts on the Thought for the Day. I hope you might occasionally go back and reread some past entries, and feel good about yourself and your accomplishments. The future is yours to take. Find a way and make it happen.

The following was my first effort on July 28, 2008:

“Babe Ruth struck out 1,330 times.”

That was a cross-stitched framed sign that hung in a bank president’s office I visited in 1985. That is all the sign said. I pondered that saying for quite a while. Eventually I summarized that many people would have given up and not even gone back up to the plate. But Babe Ruth kept going back to the plate and took his swings. He didn’t give up but knew he could do it. Of course he eventually set the home run record of 60 home runs in a season. The moral of the story, I believe, is if you don’t give up and step up the plate and take your swings, you will get some hits and some home runs. Don’t get discouraged, Keep Swinging! That experience stayed with me and I found a lot of encouragement from that. That was my inspiration to send out positive thoughts and encouragement to others, as my mentors had done for me.
I wish you all a farewell and hope that you will continue to take your swings at life.

Respectfully yours,

W. Michael Scott

Everything is a learning experience. Our challenge is to glean from our experiences what is the lesson to be learned. We can learn from history, will we allow ourselves this education? Or will we ignore it and pretend it won’t happen again? It is our choice. Do the right thing.

Have a great day, and learn from your experiences.

It is your personal responsibility to achieve what you want in life. No one can do it for you, it is not anyone else’s responsibility, it is your opportunity and your responsibility. Don’t allow yourself to be dissatisfied, make things happen yourself. If you tolerate not achieving your goals, it is your fault. Take personal responsibility of your destiny.

Have a great day, and you can do it if you choose.

What makes us all happy is being enthusiastic about making our goals for the first quarter! Being a part of a Dream Team is exciting, and having and being part of a Dream Support Team makes us all happy. There are no limits, the sky is the limit and we only limit ourselves in our thinking. So aim high, you are on a great team so be proud and promote it! You can do it.

Have a great day, and make things happen!

Never give up. No is not a no, just a not yet or I don’t fully understand. We can learn from our temporary defeats, not be defeated. Attitude is the key, make sure yours is positive.

Have a great day, and remember, success requires action.

We do mention this to our clients when they see their productivity numbers compared to others. Now that you have information on how you are doing, don’t worry about not being where you want to be, concentrate of how to get to where you want to be. There may always be distractions and obstacles, but keep your focus and do what is necessary to move forward toward your goal.

Have a great day, and look towards the finish line.

Fear is a terrible thing. It becomes paralyzing and builds upon itself. Fear can become depression. If you have fears get some help. To get out of fear you must take some action and do something to move forward. There is a good horizon out there for you, but you have to go get it.

Have a great day, and move forward.

Mike
